guess i don’t have to say things are moving along at a great pace. it continues to be difficult to get into a routine that really works, and allows me to keep a good pace. i have a chance to make some real progress over the next four days, or maybe three anyway. wife and kids are out of town till thursday, so i will be schooling every night this week. hopefully i can get through several lessons and maybe even actually finish a course! sheesh. at this rate i’ll finish the program when i’m 60!
hope to have a better report by the end of the week.

It has been a very long time since I last posted. The summer was very busy in many ways and I was not able to devote much time to my courses. We had to make some big changes by the end of the summer and now are on a pretty rigid schedule each week so that I am getting lots of time for school. Since pictures are worth a thousand words, as they say. I thought rather than stale text, I’d show you what I’ve been up to since the last post.
Lots of before and after examples.

These images are all from my Photoshop Basics class. Once I finish the exercise for lesson three, I will be half way through the course.
I have also started a course on XHTML and CSS Essentials. Finished the first lesson and turned in the first assignment exercise. Here are links to what I was able to create.

it looks like I am on a pattern of two posts a month. And strangely they are falling on almost the same dates! Just a quick one because of my new schedule. I’ve been doing the 5 am classes for an hour for a week and a half now. It looks like the first half of the week things go great, but by Friday, I’m really tired! Because of my men’s group on Thursday mornings, I am getting up before 5 am four days a week. And I’ve also found that I am naturally waking up really early (so long as I go to bed at a decent hour!). I’ve become “wide” awake at 3 and 3:30. Its typical for me to wake up before my alarm. Then its a debate about going ahead and getting up, or staying in bed until the alarm actually goes off!
Anyway, that is how the schedule has been working. The hours go fast. I really don’t want to quit when the hour is up. But if I don’t, then a whole chain of events begins. Later getting ready, later getting out the door to work, later getting to work, thus later to leave work to come home, thus more tired in the evening. Last week it was weird. When I came home after work, I actually had more energy, and was able to accomplish more in a shorter amount of time, which I atribute to being on a tighter schedule with everything. We’ll see if that holds true this week.
Just a few more lines, then I need to move on to the next thing. I am almost done with the first lesson (boy this is going slow). Below is what I have been able to create so far. We actually hand colored the second car just using the mouse! My wrist was killing me after that! I have some carpel tunnel issues, so I will have to be careful how much I do. I also need to get one of those wrist wraps or supports. We have some around here somewhere!
the little guys are multiplying!
Well, that is it for today. Its almost 6:15, and I need to go!

A fair bit of time has passed since my last post. It seems that about the time I last posted we were just recovering from an extended bout of the kids being sick. Then they were well enough to get a chance to go visit their grandmother for a week. Nicole and I had a great week “off” from the kids, but neither of us made much progress on the things we intended to get to! She actually started to not feel well, and by the weekend, was sick and I had to attend to her. So she didn’t get much sewing done, and I didn’t get much to my schooling. The following week we had the girls back as well as Nicole’s oldest sister Sarah. She came to help Nicole sew, take some of the load off as far as house work, meals and kids! But alas that meant she was in the guest room (which is also my office). So another week of no school. 😦
Things are back to “normal” this week. We met up with Sarah’s family in Buffalo, TX, which is about half way for each of us (maybe a little further for them). We had a great visit with them all at the Sonic there in Buffalo. We kind of took over the place! Like I said, we are now back to more of a normal routine. I’ve decided that I am usually not good for much in the evenings after work. I’ve been working a little overtime the last couple of weeks to try and keep up with all that I have to do. Its not working. I feel myself getting further behind. Summer time is obviously a busy time for a “summer” camp! So anyway, the evenings. Yes, that is where I was going. I’d come home from work, did I mention how busy its been? Well, I just wouldn’t have much gas left in my tank and would find myself falling asleep at the computer! So, my new plan is to be very purposful about my bed time in the evening. (No staying up to 3 or 4 in the morning! 🙂 , which I wasn’t really doing, but it sounds good doesn’t it?) Anyway, no staying up late, and I am going to try to get up a little earlier in the morning and get an hour of school in before the rest of the world wakes up. It worked great this morning, except for the fact I didn’t want to stop after just an hour! So, my typical schedule is going to be something like this during the week. Up at 5 am. School till 6. Make lunch, shower, get ready for work, head out the door between 7 and 7:30. Work till 5:30 at Pine Cove. Come home: dinner, kids, wife, any church or CEF work, and to bed at 10:00 pm! I plan to only do school three mornings a week for now, and see how it goes. I’ve really felt the pull to get to my courses the last several weeks, and its been frustrating not being able to!
That’s all for now. Back to the PC grind!

I guess its been about a week since I did my first post. I am still getting used to how WordPress works. So far it hasn’t been as straight forward as Blogger. So I’m still deciding if this is the way I want to go for my blog. I have yet to send out a “big” announcement about the existence of this blog. So nobody has probably even read anything here yet! 🙂
I have figured out that there are 87 individual lessons that I will be going through, which are spread out over about 17 courses. The first course I am working on is Photoshop Basics. It is going kind of slow so far. I haven’t worked out a precise schedule of when I do school and when I do other things, i.e. work at Pine Cove full time, work part time for GVBC (our church), work part time for CEF, spend quality time with my lovely wife and precious daughters, keep up with the yard work, maintain the vehicles, be involved with the men’s ministry at church, etc, etc, etc! Life can be very busy now, can’t it! But as I was telling Nicole today, at least I’m not bored!
The first lesson in my Photoshop Basics class has me learning how to edit an image. The first thing was to remove the background from the main subject. Here is what it looks like.
My first photoshop selection
Its a little rough around the edges. I think I need to go in and do a little more editing before I continue with the lesson. I think we are going to do all sort of things with this little guy. Learning to change the color of the car, duplicating it so there are several images of the car in one photo, and I’m sure all sorts of other things.
Like I mentioned, I’m still working on getting into a routine so that I’m getting to my schooling on a regular basis.
I hope to be able to say I’ve completed my first lesson by my next post.
Till then, cheerio!

I decided to take the plunge and go after something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I have enrolled in a program called Web Design Master’s Certificate, through the Sessions Online School of Design. There are many reasons why I wanted to do this. But the main one is that I wanted to learn how to do exceptional work in web design, and become my own boss someday. I feel that this program will teach me the skills and give me the tools to do just that.
So, this is just the beginning. I will be attempting to keep this blog updated on a pretty regular basis. Letting you all know the progress I am making. I’ll probably keep you informed of what particular class I am in the midst of and let you see some of the projects I will be working on.
We are very excited about this and what the future might hold. If all goes as planned, I should be able to complete the program in about 9 months.
